Where Do Tech Businesses Flourish Outside Silicon Valley?

Workers may not be as close to the Silicon Valley action in areas like Nashville, but they are more likely to pay less in rent and expenses.

Silicon Valley is widely considered the hottest spot in the United States for technology jobs. Recently, however, other cities have also seen a spike in the industry, thanks in part to sky-high housing prices and competitive salaries that keep growing startups out of the San Francisco Bay area.

This data, drawn from the New York Times via Statista, shows that San Francisco does still reign supreme when it comes to a growing crop of tech jobs. Raleigh, N.C. follows. Companies like IBM taking up residence in the city and the Research Triangle Park hub have helped Raleigh’s technology jobs grow.

Austin’s reputation for hip and flourishing arts and tech companies contributed to the number of technology jobs there growing 37.2 percent between 2010 and 2015.

Workers may not be as close to the Silicon Valley action in areas like Nashville, but they are more likely to pay less in rent and expenses. Startups that have been priced out of Silicon Valley still have plenty of opportunities for networking with universities, manufacturers, and other companies in these top spots.
