Tesla Looks to the Midwest for Manufacturing

Expected to enter production by late 2021, it appears as though Tesla’s Cybertruck will not be manufactured at the company’s Fremont, California facility.

The electric vehicle pioneer is reportedly looking to build a new production facility in the middle of the country.

Per Elon Musk’s Twitter account, “Scouting locations for Cybertruck Gigafactory. Will be central USA.”

The new plant, which will bring as many as 1,000 jobs to its final destination, could also support production for the Model Y cross-over utility vehicle.

The presence of GM, Nissan and VW in Tennessee has brought a number of automotive suppliers to that area, making Nashville a heavily rumored finalist.

Unlike its Fremont facility, which was purchased and refurbished, it appears Tesla is looking to build a completely new plant for the Cybertruck.
