GM is in some ways fighting for its life. The largest car company in the U.S. recognizes that driverless cars are an existential threat to the industry as we know it. It is a very real possibility that cars cease being a consumer purchase, or that they are bought in far fewer numbers and instead become an on-demand service in the future. Google has already built their own cars and is testing them on pubic roads. But GM is about to roll out a self-driving Cadillac. Can GM beat Google to market with the first self-driving car?
