Plans by India-based Sakthi Automotive Group for a roughly $30 million manufacturing facility on Detroit's southwest side are moving forward.
A groundbreaking is Monday on the project, which was announced in May. Mayor Mike Duggan and Sakthi officials are among those attending. The 180,000-square-foot facility is part of a larger project that includes the redevelopment of the former Southwestern High School.
Officials from Focus: HOPE, the Michigan Department of Corrections and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. also are involved.
Sakthi Automotive is part of Sakthi Group, a private conglomerate. Officials say the project is expected to create hundreds of jobs.
The Michigan Strategic Fund earlier this year approved $3.5 million in incentives for Sakthi Automotive, which has operated in Detroit for several years.
