Alabama will be the new home of a future Toyota-Mazda auto plant, sources say.

Alabama will be the new home of a future Toyota-Mazda auto plant, sources say.

According to the Associated Press, an individual briefed on the situation said the $1.6 billion plant would be in operation by 2021 and employ about 4,000 people. An official announcement is expected later today.

In August Japanese auto manufacturers Toyota and Mazda announced plans for a joint U.S. venture that would produce 300,000 vehicles each year. The BBC reports the factory located was narrowed down to Alabama and North Carolina with the latter missing out since it didn’t have the supply-chain logistics the companies needed.
