Suzuki To Set Up New Car Assembly Plant In India

Suzuki Motor Corp. said Tuesday it will set up a new car assembly plant in India's western state of Gujarat to supply cars to Maruti Suzuki India Corp., Suzuki's subsidiary in India. Suzuki said it will invest about $488 million for the project, and production is expected to start in 2017.

NEW DELHI (Kyodo) -- Suzuki Motor Corp. said Tuesday it will set up a new car assembly plant in India's western state of Gujarat to supply cars to Maruti Suzuki India Corp., Suzuki's subsidiary in India.

Suzuki said it will invest 50 billion yen (about $488 million) for the project, and production is expected to start in 2017.

The entire output will be sold by Maruti Suzuki.

The Gujarat plant will have an initial production capacity of 100,000 cars a year.
