INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- One of four finalists seeking to redevelop a General Motors Corp. stamping plant that once employed more than 6,000 workers near downtown Indianapolis is considering using part of the land for a 10,000-seat soccer stadium.
The Indianapolis Business Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1hZm5Ym ) Keystone Group President Ersal Ozdemir wants to build a stadium where his Indy Eleven of the North American Soccer League franchise would play. The team is expected to begin play in April.
A decision on who will be picked to redevelop the 102-acre site is expected by the end of the year. Demolition likely will start in the spring. The other finalists are Ambrose Property Group, Buckingham Cos. and REI Investments.
The property is along White River south of the Indianapolis Zoo.
