ELKHART, Ind. (AP) -- A former Indiana prosecutor who brought criminal charges against Ford Motor Co. over a Pinto crash that killed three people has died. Michael Cosentino was 74.
The Elkhart Truth says the ex-Elkhart County prosecutor died Monday. He served from 1975 to 2002.
Cosentino brought reckless homicide charges against Ford in the 1978 deaths of three female teens whose 1973 Ford Pinto exploded after being rear-ended by a truck. A jury acquitted the automaker in 1980.
Current Prosecutor Curtis Hill worked for Cosentino for 14 years. He tells WSBT-TV his ex-boss was capable and confident in all his actions as a lawyer and a prosecutor.
Funeral arrangements through Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home in Elkhart were incomplete Monday night.
