UTC Announces Pratt & Whitney Leadership Changes

United Technologies Corp. has announced that David Hess is retiring as president of its Pratt & Whitney subsidiary, to be succeeded by Chief Operating Officer Paul Adams.The 58-year-old Hess is retiring Jan. 1 after 34 years with UTC.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- United Technologies Corp. has announced that David Hess is retiring as president of its Pratt & Whitney subsidiary, to be succeeded by Chief Operating Officer Paul Adams.

The 58-year-old Hess is retiring Jan. 1 after 34 years with UTC. The company said the executives will work on the transition through the end of the year. Hess has been Pratt & Whitney's president since 2009.

The 52-year-old Adams has been with UTC since 1999. He also has served as Pratt & Whitney's senior vice president for Operations & Engineering. He will report to UTC Propulsion & Aerospace Systems President & CEO Alain Bellemare, who made the announcement Tuesday.

Bellemare said under Hess' leadership the company became the largest systems supplier for Boeing's 787 aircraft, and achieved its sole-source position on the F-35 fighter aircraft.
