2 Mercedes-Benz Employees Center of Bribery Investigation

A pair of Mercedes-Benz employees are being investigated over suspected bribery allegations, according to Bild

The company confirmed that it is part of the investigation by German authorities as a victim. 

According to the public prosecutor's office, the allegations surround corruption and bribery in commercial transactions. 

The workers were part of a scheme to curry favor towards select suppliers in exchange for kickbacks. 

As part of the investigation, authorities searched the purchasing and development departments at the company's Sindelfingen plant. 

Police seized computers, mobile phones and other evidence at the plant before searching at least one employee's home. 

The Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant has been in operation since 1915 and employs some 35,000 people. 

The plant is home to vehicle production, purchasing and supplier management as well as the carmaker's R&D division.
