McLaren Partners with Lockheed Martin Skunk Works on Supercars

The automaker wants "futuristic" supercar designs.

Luxury vehicle company McLaren Automotive has announced a collaboration with an unlikely partner: an aerospace company.

McLaren recently revealed that it would be pursuing ā€œfuturisticā€ supercar designs with the help of Lockheed Martin Skunk Works.

Skunk Works is perhaps best known for creating the hypersonic aircraft concept – Darkstar – that was used in the Top Gun: Maverick movie.

It also focuses on disruptive solutions in other areas, including classified projects with national security in mind.

According to a press release, the duo will attempt to transfer Lockheed’s systems over to the world of cars.

McLaren adds that Skunk Works’ ā€œpioneering software sets the parameters for high-speed systems more accurately and swiftly than traditional design methods.ā€

McLaren’s already-high-performance supercars may get a significant speed boost from the partnership.

That’s because Skunk Works specializes in hypersonic and supersonic air travel.
