Ford Suggests Turning Off the Heat in Your F-150 Lightning This Winter

The automaker warns that temperatures below 40°F can limit power output.

Ford launched the F-150 Lightning earlier this year and now its first full-size electric truck is heading into its first winter.

The automaker warned that temperatures below 40°F can slow down battery fluids and limit power output.

With the official start of winter less than a month away and the cold already settling in, Ford offered tips for maximizing range in the winter.

One tip suggests using heated seats and steering wheels as primary heat to reduce the energy consumed by the vehicle’s HVAC system.

Some of the less extreme tips include parking the F-150 in a garage whenever possible and keeping it plugged in when parked.

The company also suggested preconditioning the vehicle by warming the battery while plugged in before attempting a longer drive.

The Ford F-150 has an EPA-estimated range of 320 miles and can also be used as a backup power source for up to three days.
