Mercedes-Benz to Charge Annual Fee for Faster Acceleration

The annual acceleration subscription will cost $1,200.

Mercedes-Benz is getting in on the emerging automaker trend of charging extra for vehicle features.

The company will soon offer a $1,200 annual subscription called “Acceleration Increase” for the Mercedes-EQ.

The service will provide a “noticeable improvement” of 0.8 to 1.0 seconds when going from 0 to 60 MPH.

Depending on the EQ model, the acceleration rate could go from as high as 6 seconds to as low as 4.5 seconds.

Mercedes described the feature as an “adjustment of the motor characteristic curve, torque and maximum output.”

Mercedes isn’t the first automaker to begin charging extra to unlock features included in its vehicles.

Earlier this year, BMW reportedly began charging a monthly rate to drivers wishing to use their heated seats.
