How the Top Automakers Made Out in Automony's Major EV Order

The order was for some 23,000 electric vehicles valued at approximately $1.2 billion.

Vehicle subscription service Autonomy just placed a massive order for about 23,000 electric vehicles, valued at approximately $1.2 billion. The company said the order represents about 1.2% of the U.S. total EV production through the end of next year. In all, 17 automakers are represented in the order and it’s a good chance for all of them to put sales numbers on the board. But not all of them made out equally in the deal.

As you probably suspected, Tesla takes up the majority of the order. According to estimates from Business Insider, the order includes 8,300 Teslas valued at about $443 million. After Tesla comes GM, which will kick in 3,400 EVs valued at about $139 million.

The rest of the automakers selling more than 1,000 EVs to Autonomy are recognizable giants like Ford, Volkswagen, Hyundai and Kia. Among the upstart EV makers that received orders from the service, Rivian leads the way with 1,000 vehicles valued at about $72 million.

From there, total EV orders per automaker range from 600 to 100. Both Mercedes and Toyota are selling 600 cars to Autonomy while Canoo, Lucid and Fisker are only selling 100 vehicles each. Vinfast, Volvo, Polestar and Subaru combined for just more than 1,000 EVs combined.

For Autonomy, the big influx of EVs will help the company expand its service nationwide through a partnership with AutoNation. According to Autonomy, the retailer will provide vehicle preparation, delivery services and subscriber activation, as well as maintenance, repair and reconditioning services for its growing fleet.

For consumers, Autonomy could provide a compelling option for switching from gas-powered vehicles while we wait for the average price of EVs to come down.
