Amazon Alleging Interference in NYC Union Victory

It was Amazon's first successful U.S. organizing effort.

April opened with Amazon workers in Staten Island voting to unionize, which served as the company’s first successful organizing effort in the United States.

A week later, the retail giant is alleging interference in the process.

One of Amazon’s objections was that the Amazon Labor Union (ALU) interfered with workers waiting in line to vote.

However, Reuters reports Amazon provided no evidence and the ALU called the allegations false.

The close vote saw warehouse workers cast 2,654 votes, approximately 55%, in favor of a union.

According to the National Labor Relations Board, 2,131 workers, or 45%, rejected the bid to unionize.

An attorney representing the ALU said, “To say the ALU was threatening employees is absurd. The ALU is Amazon employees.”
