Last May, Ford revealed its electric F-150, which possessed the power to charge an entire house during emergencies for three days on one charge with a feature called Ford Intelligent Backup Power.
Now, the automaker introduces the all-electric 2022 F-150 Lightning and the F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid and they bring a new meaning to topping off.
With the Pro Power Onboard 240-volt outlet, the F-150 Lightning and F-150 PowerBoost can “share” miles with other electric vehicles. The vehicle-to-vehicle charging can be between EVs built by Ford and other manufacturers.
The Ford Mobile Power Cord charger provides Level-2 charging when connected to the Lightning or PowerBoost Hybrid with the optional 9.6 or 7.2 kilowatt Pro Power Onboard.
Customers can use a power adaptor to link the Ford Mobile Power Cord to a truck. Once connected to the outlet, the power cord can charge a variety of all-electric vehicles that utilize the SAE J1772 charge port. These vehicles include but are not limited to, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup and the Ford E-Transit electric van.
Contributions feature an estimated range of 20 miles per charging hour on a Mustang Mach-E with extended-range battery and rear-wheel drive, 13 miles on the F-150 Lightning and 10 miles on a Ford E-Transit low-roof cargo van.
The F-150 Lightning will begin shipping to customers in the spring of 2022. Reservations for the Lightning were closed at approximately 200,000.
