Colgate has announced what it claims is an “industry-first” in toothpaste packaging – a recyclable tube.
Toothpaste tubes have traditionally been constructed from a non-recyclable combination of plastic and aluminum.
Colgate’s new packaging is made from the same HDPE plastic as milk jugs, meaning it can go in the recycling bin.
It took five years, and a combination of several HDPE grades, in order to make the tube squeezable enough for toothpaste.
The new tube comes with a new toothpaste as well: Colgate’s Smile for Good brand.
Smile for Good is certified by the Vegan Society because it doesn’t contain the glycerin made from animal fat found in many conventional toothpaste formulas.
99.7% of the ingredients are said to be natural.
Colgate-Palmolive has made a pledge to package all of its products in recyclable packaging by 2025.
