As the Vermont maple syrup industry vies for a bigger place on the world stage, the state Senate has passed a measure along to the House that would revamp the way maple syrup is labeled in the state. The new grading labels would bring Vermont maple producers in line with the way the rest of the world and, legislators hope, make it easier for producers to sell product abroad.

The new grading labels would bring Vermont maple producers in line with the way the rest of the world and, legislators hope, make it easier for producers to sell product abroad. But the measure has seem some hesitance. State Sen. Kevin Mullin, before reluctantly supporting the bill, said,

"We should not be following everyone else in lockstep and... giving them the ability to try to pretend that syrup made in another state is anywhere near as good as the syrup made in Vermont."
