A roofing products manufacturer is expanding its operation in Tuscumbia in the Shoals area of Alambama and will create about 40 new jobs.

Officials with Firestone Building Products announced Monday plans to expand the facility that makes the commercial roofing material thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO).

The company's president, Tim Dunn, said the expansion will give the Tuscumbia operation more manufacturing capabilities and in the short-term "much needed warehouse space."

Construction of the new space is expected to begin in September and be completed in 2013. Company officials said they hope to have an additional TPO manufacturing line in operation by July 1, 2015.

Alabama Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield joined Tuscumbia Mayor Bill Shoemaker, Shoals area officials and company representatives Monday at a lease signing ceremony at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.
