GT Solar Signs $228M Equipment Order

GT Solar International Inc. received a Korean order for polysilicon production equipment worth $228 million, its biggest order for such equipment and technology to date.

NEW YORK (AP) -- GT Solar International Inc. said Wednesday that it received a Korean order for polysilicon production equipment worth $228 million, it biggest order for such equipment and technology to date.

Its shares climbed 61 cents, or 5.3 percent, to $12.09 in pre-market trading.

GT, based in Merrimack, New Hampshire, said the order from OCI Company of South Korea will be used for OCI's new production facility, which will be completed by the fourth quarter of 2012. When finished, the plant will increase production to 62,000 metric tons per year.

The order will be included in GT's backlog for its current fiscal quarter, which ends on July 2.
