Siemens Wins $83M Transit Car Contract

Siemens AG said Wednesday a subsidiary has been awarded an $83 million contract to build light rail vehicles for the Houston Metro.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Siemens AG said Wednesday a subsidiary has been awarded an $83 million contract to build light rail vehicles for the Houston Metro.

Under the deal, the Siemens Industry unit will deliver 19 vehicles, spare parts, training and manuals. This is Siemens' second order from Houston Metro.

Houston Metro currently has 16 stations and 18 light rail vehicles in operation.

The new rail cars will be delivered beginning in October 2012.
