Rolls-Royce Gets $1.2B Order From China

Shares in Rolls-Royce are up slightly after the company won a $1.2 billion order from China Eastern Airlines for Trent 700 engines to power 17 Airbus aircraft.

LONDON (AP) -- Shares in Rolls-Royce Group PLC are up slightly after the company won a $1.2 billion order from China Eastern Airlines for Trent 700 engines to power 17 Airbus aircraft.

Tuesday's 0.3 percent gain to 608.5 pence ($9.78) on the London Stock Exchange follows a bigger rise on Monday after the company said it had made progress in finding the cause of the engine failings that have grounded Qantas' fleet of A380s, the world's newest and largest airliner.

Rolls-Royce Group said Monday that inspections were being carried out on the Trent 900 engines built for the A380s in coordination with Airbus, jet companies and air authorities.

The China Eastern deal quotes list prices for the engines -- airlines often negotiate heavy discounts.
