Volkswagen Sales Rise In October

Automaker says it sold nearly 10 percent more cars in October than it did the previous year as demand remained strong in China and the U.S.

BERLIN (AP) -- Volkswagen AG says it sold nearly 10 percent more cars in October than it did the previous year as demand remained strong in China and the U.S.

The company said Friday that the Volkswagen group, which also includes brands such as Audi, Skoda and Seat, sold 612,200 vehicles in October -- up from 557,400 a year earlier.

That means sales over the first ten months of the year were up 12.4 percent to 5.98 million.

Volkswagen says its sales in China were up 38.4 percent year-on-year for the first 10 months at 1.65 million vehicles. The company delivered 295,900 cars in the U.S. -- a 20.7 percent increase.

Volkswagen's deliveries in its home European market were far more subdued, edging up only 0.2 percent to 2.78 million.
