Air Products To Raise Prices

Company said Thursday it will hike prices for several products and monthly service charges for North American customers starting Oct. 1.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- Air Products and Chemicals Inc. said Thursday it will hike prices for several products and monthly service charges for North American customers starting Oct. 1.

The Allentown, Pa., gas supplier will raise prices between 4 percent and 8 percent for liquid and bulk hydrogen and liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon. Liquid and bulk helium prices will rise between 5 percent and 10 percent, and monthly service charges will go up between 3 percent and 5 percent.

Air Products said the revised pricing offsets higher operating costs and input costs, and some adjustments may fall outside these ranges based on specific situations.

Air Products sells gases for industrial, medical and other uses. It's in the middle of a bid to buy rival Airgas Inc. of Radnor, Pa., in a deal valued at about $5.5 billion.

Air Products shares climbed 36 cents to $81.74 in late Thursday morning trading.
