State Department Orders 11 Sikorsky Helicopters

Sikorsky Aerospace Services said Monday that the U.S. State Department has ordered 11 additional S-61T utility helicopters for use in Iraq and Afghanistan.

SHELTON, Conn. (AP) -- Sikorsky Aerospace Services said Monday that the U.S. State Department has ordered 11 additional S-61T utility helicopters for use in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The order will increase the State Department's fleet of S-61 helicopters to 15.

Terms were not disclosed.

The S-61 helicopter began flying in 1959, serving in the U.S. Navy, Britain's Royal Navy and other overseas fleets. Sirkorsky has been providing modernized versions of the helicopter since 2008.

Sikorsky Aircraft is based in Stratford, Conn. The company is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.

Shares of United Technologies Corp. rose 57 cents to $70.10 in midday trading.
