Indiana Plant To Make Humvees

AM General plans to continue building Humvees into next year at a northern Indiana factory despite U.S. military plans to move on to a new tactical vehicle.

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (AP) -- AM General plans to continue building Humvees into next year at a northern Indiana factory despite U.S. military plans to move on to a new tactical vehicle.

Company spokeswoman Celeste Ross said Monday that AM General had received an order for more than 2,500 Humvees for Afghan army and police forces.

That means the Mishawaka plant will remain in production into 2011.

Ross says the labor force of more than 2,000 workers will remain unchanged.

The Army announced its decision to stop ordering Humvees in its 2011 budget released in February.
