RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. (AP) -- Nearly 700 union workers at the Alcan Rolled Products plant in Ravenswood are preparing to vote on the company's latest contract offer.
Voting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Thursday and continue Friday.
The Charleston Daily Mail reported Thursday that union leaders sent letters to workers this week encouraging them to ratify the proposed contract. The letter cited the slumping aluminum market and said there are times to pick fights and a time to avoid them.
Union members are working under an extension of the existing contract, which expired June 1. They rejected the company's previous contract offer.
The plant employs more than 1,000 salaried and hourly workers and is Jackson County's largest employer.
