Dealers In Talks With Chrysler

Group representing Chrysler dealers in talks with the automaker in hopes of scaling back plans to terminate franchise agreements of about a quarter of its dealers.

NEW YORK (AP) -- A group representing Chrysler dealers says it's in talks with the automaker it hopes of getting it to scale back its plans to terminate the franchise agreements of about a quarter of its dealers.

Michael Bernstein, an attorney for the Chrysler National Dealer Council, says he's hopeful that Chrysler LLC will agree to end fewer agreements than the 789 originally listed in its court motion.

In addition, he says the group wants to ensure that the dealers whose franchise agreements ultimately are terminated get the help from Chrysler they need for a smooth transition.

Bernstein says the talks are ongoing and also include representatives from Fiat Group SpA and Chrysler's creditors committee.
