Cutting Tools Supplier Adds 51 Jobs

Sweden-based Sandvik Inc. plans to add 51 jobs to its North Carolina plant in the next three years and invest $85 million.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- A Sweden-based supplier of cutting tools plans to add 51 jobs to its North Carolina plant.

Sandvik Inc. said Wednesday it plans to add those jobs to its Mebane plant in the next three years and invest $85 million.

The international company received $150,000 from the state's One North Carolina Fund, a grant that encourages businesses to create new jobs in the state.

Sandvik produces high-speed cutting tools as well as stainless and high-alloy specialty steel products. It operates 78 manufacturing facilities in 59 countries. Its Mebane plant currently has 160 employees.

Mebane is located about 20 miles north of Chapel Hill.
