Spectrum Brands On Track To Acquire Russell Hobbs

Consumer products maker said period during which it could receive alternative offers to its Russell Hobbs buyout has expired, paving the way for deal to close this summer.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Spectrum Brands Inc., which makes Rayovac batteries and Remington shavers, said Thursday the period during which it could receive alternative offers to its acquisition of Russell Hobbs has expired.

Spectrum agreed to acquire Russell Hobbs, which makes Black & Decker and George Foreman appliances, in February.

The acquisition is expected to close in the summer.

Spectrum Brands, based in Atlanta, emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last August.

Spectrum shares rose 16 cents to $30.50 during morning trading.
