NEW YORK (AP) -- Drug and medical device maker Covidien PLC said Monday it won a patent infringement lawsuit against Applied Medical Resources Corp.
Covidien said a jury ruled that some of Applied Medical's Kii and Universal laparoscopic trocars violated a Covidien patent. Trocars are devices that are used to create small openings for laparoscopic, or minimally invasive, surgical procedures. The devices are usually three-pointed.
Covidien is based in Dublin, Ireland. Its U.S.-traded shares rose 23 cents to $51.42 in after-hours trading.
