German Producer Prices Steady In February

Federal Statistical Office says German producer prices in February were unchanged compared with January but fell nearly 3 percent from year-ago levels.

FRANKFURT (AP) -- The Federal Statistical Office says German producer prices in February were unchanged compared with January but fell nearly 3 percent from year-ago levels.

The Wiesbaden-based office said Friday that energy producer prices fell 8.3 percent from February 2009 levels, while overall prices for components for industry fell almost 1 percent.

The Statistical Office says prices for iron and steel fell 1.5 percent from February 2009 but that prices for non-iron metals rose nearly 30 percent. Base elements for chemicals were also 1.4 percent more expensive.
