DETROIT (AP) -- A national convention in Detroit on the future of manufacturing, technology, energy and the environment is moving from Ford Field to a smaller venue to cut costs and reflect lower expected attendance.
Organizers of The National Summit, set for June 15-17, announced Wednesday it's moving to the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center. More than 40 executives have agreed to speak at the summit co-chaired by Ford Motor Co. Executive Chairman Bill Ford and Dow Chemical Co. Chief Executive Andrew Liveris.
Conference organizers initially hoped to draw 5,000 to Ford Field, home of the NFL's Detroit Lions. The Marriott limits attendance to 1,700 and they expect to fill it.
Organizers say the global economy has dramatically worsened since the summit was announced in September.
