GM, Ford Offer Gift Cards For Test Drives

General Motors and Ford dealers are offering $50 gift cards to people who visit the New York International Auto Show and then test drive a vehicle at a local dealership.

NEW YORK (AP) -- General Motors and Ford dealers are offering $50 gift cards to people who visit the New York International Auto Show and then test drive a vehicle at a local dealership.

Automakers and dealers often run sales and promotions tied to auto shows, but the $50 offer with no purchase necessary shows that the companies are going to great lengths to attract buyers while auto sales are near the lowest level in more than a quarter-century.

Auto show officials say the offer is an attempt to get customers into showrooms to take a closer look at Ford and GM products.

The GM gift cards are good for purchases on restaurants.com, while the Ford cards can be spent anywhere.

The auto show runs through Sunday.
