Bosch To Idle 1,900 Workers

Auto parts maker Robert Bosch Corp. says it will idle 1,900 workers at its Charleston, S.C., plant for three weeks because of sluggish sales.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- An auto parts maker says it will idle 1,900 workers at its Charleston plant for three weeks because of sluggish sales.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Thursday that the Robert Bosch Corp. will close for a full week in April, in May and in July.

Company spokeswoman Becky MacDonald says the shutdowns will occur around Easter, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. She said employees can use vacation if they want.

Since the start of the year, the plant has cut 240 workers through both buyouts and layoffs.
