Alliant Cutting 300 Jobs

Aerospace and defense contractor says it is cutting 300 jobs from its Utah facilities through layoffs, retirements and attrition.

MAGNA, Utah (AP) -- Aerospace and defense contractor Alliant Techsystems Inc. says it is cutting 300 jobs from its Utah facilities.

ATK spokesman George Torres says the cuts are to be made by the end of March and will be accomplished through layoffs, retirements and attrition.

He says the company also will try to transfer some employees elsewhere to possibly reduce the number of cuts.

Torres says the cuts are due to changes in ATK programs, some of which have been anticipated for a long time.

Torres says the cuts were announced internally to employees last week. Minneapolis-based ATK has about 5,000 employees in Utah at facilities in Promontory, Magna and Clearfield.
