Curtiss-Wright Buys Nu-Torque

Maker of motion control products for military and commercial use acquired Nu-Torque, a designer and manufacturer of electric and hydraulic valve and control devices.

ROSELAND, N.J. (AP) -- Curtiss-Wright Corp., which makes motion control products for military and commercial use, said Tuesday it has acquired Nu-Torque, a designer and manufacturer of electric and hydraulic valve and control devices primarily for the Navy.

Nu-Torque, which was founded in 1980 and acquired in 2002 by Tyco Flow Control, a unit of Tyco International Ltd., will become part of Curtiss-Wright's flow control segment.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Martin R. Benante, chairman and chief executive of Roseland, N.J.-based Curtiss-Wright, said the acquisition gives Curtiss-Wright the opportunity to expand its presence in the Navy market and improves its expansion into international niche markets.

Nu-Torque has annual sales of $8 million, while Curtiss-Wright saw sales of $1.59 billion in 2007.

Shares fell $2.27, or 6.6 percent, to $32.20 in afternoon trading.
