MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (AP) — A manufacturing company founded in Mount Airy more than 50 years ago will eliminate about 150 jobs, or almost all its positions in the Surry County town.
Perry Manufacturing Company said Wednesday that 149 people would lose their jobs in Mount Airy, where the company employs about 180 at a headquarters, a manfacturing plant and a small distribution center.
Chief Executive Officer William Woltz Jr. said the layoffs are effective in early April.
The company employs about 4,000 people worldwide. Perry Manufacturing was founded in Mount Airy in 1950.
The company's Web site says it makes knit and woven casual apparel for women, children and men.
