Workers Accept Revised Contract At Marcal Paper Mills

Union workers ratified the contract in order to keep their jobs while accepting a reduction in overtime and replacing their pension with a 401(k) plan.

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (AP) — Union members at Marcal Paper Mills in Elmwood Park have ratified a contract by a 376-131 vote.

Members of United Steelworkers 550 kept their jobs while accepting a reduction in overtime and replacing their pension with a 401(k) plan.

The union makes up the majority of the plant's 900 workers.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2006.

A judge earlier this month approved the sale of the company to NexBank of Texas.
