Louisville UAW Approves Ford Contract

Eighty percent of production workers and 75 percent of skilled trade workers voted in favor of the agreement; contract promises a new vehicle will be produced at the Louisville plant.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — United Auto Workers at the Ford Motor Co. plants in Louisville overwhelmingly approved a four-year labor agreement Sunday.

About 80 percent of production workers and 75 percent of skilled trade workers voted yes, UAW Local 862 President Rocky Comito told The Courier-Journal.

''Hopefully that shows union leadership workers have overwhelming confidence in them. I was hoping it would be unanimous, but no matter what you do, there's no perfect contract,'' he said.

The new contract contains a pledge that a new vehicle will be manufactured at the Louisville Assembly Plant by 2009, where the Ford Explorer is built.

Kentucky has promised $200 million in incentives to retool both the Louisville Assembly Plant and the Kentucky Truck Plant.
