3M Buys French Adhesive Companies

Manufacturing conglomerate acquiring EMFI SA and SAPO SA, makers of adhesives and sealants, to boost its industrial adhesives and tapes portfolio.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Manufacturing conglomerate 3M Co. said Tuesday it will acquire EMFI SA and SAPO SA, makers of adhesives and sealants based in France, in a move to boost its industrial adhesives and tapes portfolio.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The French companies' products, which are polyurethane based, are used in building and infrastructure construction, wood floors and assembly applications, 3M said. The deal also brings "technical know-how" and a manufacturing process to 3M that will allow it to broaden its offerings, according to the company.

EMFI and SAPO employ about 350 people and are based in Haguenau, France.

St. Paul, Minn.-based 3M's brands include Scotch tape and Post-it notes.
