Briggs & Stratton Announces More Wisconsin Layoffs

Power-tool and engine maker says it will lay off 72 more employees from its Port Washington, Wisc., facility.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Power-tool and engine maker Briggs & Stratton says it will lay off 72 more employees from its Ozaukee County facility.

Monday's announcement means about 150 workers will lose their jobs when the Port Washington facility closes October 15.

That state Department of Workforce Development says it will work with the company to arrange for worker orientations and other services.

Also, Cargill Meat Solutions of Wayzata, Minnesota told the state Monday it will sell its Milwaukee distribution center. The buyer is Midwest Refrigerated Services of Lawrence, Kansas.

Cargill says the move shouldn't result in job losses because Midwest Refrigerated is expected to retain those 89 employees.
