Libbey Hikes Prices 8 Percent

Glass tableware maker said it will raise prices for U.S. customers to offset 'significantly' higher energy costs.

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Glass tableware maker Libbey Inc. said it will raise prices 8 percent for U.S. customers to offset "significantly" higher energy costs.

The Toledo, Ohio, company said a 65 percent increase in the price of natural gas forced the move. Libbey called the rise "unprecedented."

Many companies have been raising selling prices to offset persistently high energy costs, including record oil prices that peaked at more than $140 per barrel.
