India's Jet Airways Buying 20 Boeing Jets

Aircraft maker will deliver the 737-800 series aircraft between October 2012 and December 2014; planes have list price of $1.4 to $1.6 billion.

NEW DELHI (AP) — Boeing Co. has won a firm order for 20 jets from India's Jet Airways, the airline said Friday.

Under the purchase agreement, the U.S. aircraft maker will deliver the 737-800 series aircraft between October 2012 and December 2014, Jet Airways said in a notice to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The statement didn't give financial details of the transaction.

At list price, the 20 jets could cost between US$1.4 billion (euro1 billion) and US$1.6 billion (euro1.13 billion).

Mumbai-based Jet Airways said it needs the planes to expand its services and replace some aircraft from its existing fleet.

The airline has also taken an option to buy another 10 of these jets between August 2013 and February 2015, the statement said.
