MONTREAL — Deutsche Bahn Regio AG has confirmed an order for 42 Bombardier regional trains valued at US$242 million.
Tuesday's announcement follows on a framework agreement with the German railway announced in February for as many as 321 of the Talent 2 electric trains worth US$1.6 billion.
The four-car units in Tuesday's deal will run on the Nuremberg suburban rail network at speeds up to 160 kilometres an hour starting in late 2010.
''This first call-off of Talent 2 trains signals the start of a new era in regional and local transport,'' declared Klaus Baur, chairman of the Berlin-based Bombardier Transportation railway equipment unit of Montreal-headquartered Bombardier Inc.
''This order will also help safeguard jobs in our German plants.''
