Japan's Industrial Production Rises In August

Industrial production increased 3.4 percent in August; Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry expects 0.8 percent contraction in September.

TOKYO (Kyodo) — Japan's industrial production increased a seasonally adjusted 3.4 percent in August from the previous month, the industry ministry said Friday.
 
The index of output at mines and factories stood at 111.8 against the base of 100 for 2000, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said in a preliminary report.
 
The figure compared with the market forecast of a 3.1 percent increase from July in a Kyodo News survey.
 
The index of industrial shipments rose 4.3 percent to 116.1 and that of industrial inventories gained 0.3 percent to 96.1.
 
Looking ahead, the ministry said manufacturers forecast a 0.8 percent contraction in industrial production in September and a 4.1 percent rise in October.
