Medtronic On Track To Acquire Kyphon

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Medical device maker Medtronic Inc. said Tuesday a federal antitrust waiting period for its acquisition of spinal implant maker Kyphon Inc. has been terminated early.
 
The $3.9 billion deal, announced in July, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2008. It still needs to be approved by Kyphon's shareholders, who are expected to vote on the proposal on Oct. 16.
 
Shares of Kyphon rose 46 cents to $67.50 in premarket trading.
