June Wholesale Inventories, Sales Rise

Census Bureau reports $359.5 billion in wholesale sales, up 0.6 percent from May and 8.1 percent from June 2006.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Census Bureau reported that June merchant wholesaler sales were up 0.6 percent from May to $359.5 billion. Sales are up 8.1 percent over the June 2006 level.
 
Sales of computer and computer peripheral equipment and supplies were up 5.4 percent from May. Sales of nondurable goods increased 0.5 percent over last month and 11.1 percent over last year.
 
At $398.5 billion, inventories were up 0.5 percent from May and up 6.3 percent from last June.
 
End-of-month inventories of durable goods were unchanged from May, but up 4.2 percent from last June. For nondurable goods, end-of-month inventories were up 1.2 percent over May and up 10.1 percent over June 2006.
 
Inventories of motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and supplies increased 1.3 percent from May. Inventories for farm product raw materials rose 5.6 percent and inventories of apparel, piece goods and notions rose 3.1 percent from May.
 
For June 2007, the inventories/sales ratio was 1.11. The ratio for June 2006 was 1.13.
