NEW DELHI (AP) - India's industrial output in May rose a robust 11.1 percent from a year ago, the government said Thursday, but the pace was slower than the previous month and fell short of expectation.
The expansion was fueled by an 11.9 percent growth in manufacturing, while mining output rose 3.7 percent and electricity generation increased 9.4 percent in May, according to data released by the Central Statistical Organization.
The government also released revised numbers for April, the first month of the current fiscal year, which showed industrial output in that month rose 12.4 percent from a year ago. Last May, industrial output grew 11.7 percent.
