Cardinal Health To Acquire VIASYS Healthcare

VIASYS, a medical technology company, sold for $1.5 billion.

DUBLIN, Ohio - Cardinal Health, a provider of products and services to improve the safety and productivity of health care, announced Monday that it will acquire VIASYS Healthcare, a medical technology company, for about $1.5 billion, including the assumption of outstanding debt.
 
The transaction is expected to be completed by the summer of 2007.
 
VIASYS, headquartered in Conshohocken, Pa., had revenues of $610 million in 2006. The company develops respiratory care systems for critical care and diagnostic use, and supplies neurological, audio and vascular diagnostics, and disposable medical products used in surgical procedures.
 
According to Cardinal Health, the acquisition will increase the company’s presence in the clinical and medical product market for global, acute-care customers when combined with its complementary respiratory products business.
 
VIASYS has over 7,000 hospital customers in 100 countries and generates 40 percent of its revenue from customers outside the U.S.
 
Cardinal Health is an $80 billion company with over 40,000 employees worldwide.
